Cannabinoids are a biosynthetically unique group of compounds found in the cannabis plant. Cannabis plants can make a wide variety of cannabinoids, among them are cannabigerol (CBG) tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) as well as their acidic forms of cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA). Cannabis has a long history of being used for a variety of purposes going back to at least 4000 BC.
